Attendance & Leave Calculator

Check your attendance percentage against a target, or work out your accrued leave balance.

How it's calculated

Attendance % = present days ÷ working days × 100. Days you can still miss = floor(present ÷ target − working days). Days needed to reach target = ceil((target × working − present) ÷ (1 − target)).

Accrued leave = annual entitlement × months worked ÷ 12. Balance = accrued + carried forward − taken.

What these two calculators answer

The Attendance tab answers a practical question: given how many days you've already attended out of the total so far, how many more can you afford to miss (or how many do you need to attend) to hit a required percentage? This is common in schools, apprenticeships, and some employment contracts that set a minimum attendance threshold. The Leave Balance tab answers a different question: how much paid leave have you accrued so far this year, accounting for leave carried over from last year and leave already taken?

How to use the attendance calculator

Enter your total working days so far, how many of those you were present for (half days count as 0.5), and your required target percentage. If you're already at or above target, it shows how many more days you can miss and stay there. If you're below target, it shows how many additional days you'd need to attend — assuming no further absences — to reach it.

How to use the leave balance calculator

Enter your annual leave entitlement, how many months you've worked so far this year (leave typically accrues gradually rather than all at once), any leave carried forward from last year, and any leave already taken. The balance is what you have left to use.

Worked examples

80 working days, 68 present, 75% target: attendance is 85.00% — already above target, with room to miss 10 more days before dropping below it. With only 50 days present out of the same 80, attendance is 62.50% — below target, needing 40 more attended days (with no further absences) to climb back to 75%.

A 24-day annual entitlement, 6 months worked, 3 days carried forward from last year, and 5 days already taken this year gives 12 accrued days (half the annual entitlement, since half the year has passed) plus 3 carried forward minus 5 taken, for a balance of 10 days remaining.

Frequently asked questions

How do half days factor into attendance?

Enter present days as a decimal — a half day counts as 0.5, so attending 67.5 out of 80 working days is entered as 67.5, not rounded to 67 or 68.

What happens if I'm already above my target?

The calculator shows how many more days you can miss and still stay at or above your target percentage, instead of showing a "days needed" figure that wouldn't apply.

Why does leave accrue monthly instead of all at once?

Most employers grant leave gradually as the year progresses rather than all 24 (or however many) days on January 1st — accrued = annual entitlement × months worked ÷ 12 reflects that gradual build-up.
